Introducing Taiko Security Council

After introducing the Taiko DAO, we are taking the next step and sharing our Security Council with the community. This is an important step in decentralizing Taiko's decision-making processes, and we have been working closely with key players in the ecosystem to make it happen.

The Mission of the Security Council

The Taiko Security Council works to protect the protocol by staying ahead of security issues. They keep up with top industry standards while making sure everything works smoothly with Ethereum's security setup. The Council members use their know-how to keep improving security practices that are specifically designed for how Taiko is built.

Based on our DAO structure (the technical details can be seen here) Council members are responsible for:

  • Creating and approving proposals for the DAO. Members are the only ones who can submit proposals directly to the governance system.

  • Managing standard multisig for normal proposal flow and emergency multisig for urgent actions that require immediate attention (such as fixing critical vulnerabilities).

  • For emergency situations, they need to gather a supermajority of Council members for approval (at least 6 out of 8 members, %≥75).

  • Maintaining protocol security, especially when handling vulnerabilities - emergency proposals are encrypted and only become public after implementation to prevent exploitation.

  • Acting as gatekeepers for community members who want to make proposals - non-Council members must approach at least one Council member to submit a proposal.

Security Council Members

  • Aragon: Aragon has a long-standing presence in the industry and has the most experience in DAO development. They are also our partner in designing the Taiko DAO.

  • Chainbound: Chainbound is an R&D organization who are actively building Echo, Fiber and Bolt (proposer commitment protocol).

  • Daniel Wang: Daniel is the cofounder of Taiko and a major contributor to the Taiko protocol.

  • Drew Van der Werff: Drew leads public good initiatives such as Commit-Boost (a lightweight validator platform for securely making commitments) and Fabric (standardizing based rollups).

  • Halborn: Halborn is one of the most trusted names in crypto security, dedicated to securing the future of blockchain-powered projects worldwide.

  • L2Beat: L2Beat is a public goods research and analysis company dedicated to providing onchain transparency within the entire Ethereum ecosystem. They play a key role in Ethereum.

  • Nethermind: Nethermind is the biggest and one of the earliest blockchain research and software engineering company. They are also our partner in designing based preconfirmations at Taiko

  • Toni (Ethereum Foundation): Toni is a protocol researcher at the Ethereum Foundation. He actively contributes to privacy, economics, and protocol-related efforts.

The confirmation and establishment of the Security Council is the next step in the full development and launch of the DAO expected later this year.
